My Vote Does Not Matter
And yours probably doesn’t either.
Another presidential election is fast approaching, whether we want it to or not. And it looks pretty certain that we will get a rematch of the 2020 contest which featured current president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump. Just as happens in every election we will have loud and enthusiastic campaigns to get out the vote. Both sides and any sides in between will remind us that every vote counts and every vote matters. And even though the movements to get out the vote will be strong, the actual enthusiasm for this rematch is on par with watching two mules fight over a turnip.
Peruse as many polls and opinion pieces as you wish, and you will find that the majority of Americans are not very excited by a contest between two candidates who have as much baggage as these two. The only people who seem to be excited are the extreme partisan wings of both parties. The same people who warn in every election that America as we know it will cease to exist if the other side wins.
Those of us who consider ourselves moderate independents are left shaking our heads and wondering, “Is this the best we can do for presidential candidates?”
