I agree with your final point, just concentrate on the moment and take it one step at a time. But, I would go further by saying leave the apps or music or podcasts or whatever at home and just absorb the natural surroundings as you run. As George Sheehan said, "run to meet the animal in you". I've run for 45 years and have experienced enough downtime due to injuries that I have a simple mindset. I don't HAVE to run, I GET to run.
