Great article. I lived in the Colorado Springs suburbs for 4 years and ran often on trails. What I learned is that a runner doesn't have to be too far into the wilderness to be in lion territory. It was well known that a lion lived in one of our parks that was surrounded by housing developments and a middle school. While I never saw the lion, I saw paw prints and a deer carcass in a tree at least 8 feet off the ground. The point being, you could be much closer to the lion than you think.
