Do we need to pray more and praise less?

God sits on the beach with his legs stretched out and feels the waves lapping against his feet. He watches the sun rise, or set, and thinks the oceans are some of his best creations. Seagulls sing and an airborne train of pelicans skim the water.

God hears our prayers. He hears heartbreak and desperation and he hears joy beyond words. He hears much praise from churches and the devout. God strokes his chin and drums his fingers on the arm of his chair. Praise, praise, praise he thinks. Enough with the praise, I know I am all powerful and all loving and awesome in every way. After all, I made you and the world you live in. Let’s get to the point!

Are you hurting? Are you happy? What do you want to ask for or what do you want to complain about or thank me for? Of course, I already know. But I want to hear it from you. I want to hear your rawest and most unfiltered emotions.

Let’s have a conversation! Let’s have an argument! Either way, let’s have a relationship!

At this point you may be wondering what I am drinking. Just coffee, another one of God’s great creations. You might even think I am on thin ice and inching toward blasphemy. But I don’t think so.
