Dissecting the Lord’s Prayer
Thoughts from a layman.
In a previous article I wrote about my experience reading the entire Bible and what it meant to me. In that article, I pointed out that I am not a religious scholar or expert in theology. I don’t even claim to be very intelligent. I’m just one of those people who walks around and thinks about things. So, recently, while walking Archer Rawdawg, I conversed with myself about prayer and what it is that we should actually pray for when we talk to God.
I thought about the topic over several miles and several walks. It seemed logical that I shouldn’t pray for an easy life but instead, for the means to deal with whatever life throws at me. And I certainly shouldn’t pray for material wealth regardless of what the adherents of the prosperity gospel might say.
No, the more I thought about it the more it seemed that I should simply pray what Jesus taught us to pray. The prayer that is commonly called the Lord’s Prayer.
Many of us have prayed the Lord’s Prayer, usually in a church service, out loud and in unison with other worshipers. But how many times have we really thought about what that prayer says? Let’s look at and dissect the Lord’s Prayer.
